Stretch Mark Removal Surgery: A Good Choice?

For those of you who care about the appearance of your body, stretch marks can be a problem. Luckily, there are ways to reduce the appearance of moderate to severe stretch marks. An example of this would be stretch mark removal surgery, a type of procedure, which surgically removes stretch marks. But, there are some negative things to consider when thinking about stretch mark removal surgery.

Here are the facts behind stretch marks, and what stretch mark removal surgery may or may not do for you.

What Causes Stretch Marks?

When your skin stretches so that it can support extra weight, sometimes it can tear, causing lines or streaks to appear on the outer surface. Your skin tissue, which is made up of collagen and elastin, provides a stretchy outer layer for your body. But, depending upon how much weight is gained, and how elastic your skin is, you may develop stretch marks as a result of the added support.

What Are My Treatment Options?

Most physicians will say that stretch marks will fade 12 months after pregnancy, or after the weight is lost. If you want the stretch marks to fade faster, there are other options, such as stretch mark removal surgery.

There are a few types of stretch mark removal surgery, and finding the one that will cost less, and actually provide results is best. Most modern forms of modern cosmetic surgery include Lasik treatment. This may be an option, but most physicians say that lasik surgery breaks down the cells, instead of repairs them. But, however, there is microdermabrasion. In this procedure, the outer dead layers of the skin are removed, and thus the remaining cells are stimulated to encourage collagen growth and formation. This must be done for at least 6-10 weeks to provide any results.

Lastly, for stretch marks that are located in the lower abdomen, there is the option of the tummy tuck. In this procedure, the extra fat and skin from that area of the body is removed, along with any stretch marks located there. This provides complete removal of the stretch marks as well as a tightening and firming of the skin.

Whatever you choose, it is best to talk with your doctor first to decide whether stretch mark removal surgery is needed as there are other ways to help reduce the sight of stretch marks.
